Tens of Citizens Government officials were arrested from their homes

In September 1995, the Eritrean authorities carried out a major crackdown.
Tens of citizens, mostly government officials, were arrested from their homes, offices, and from the street.
The majority were arrested in Agordat and other localities in Gash-Barka.
None of them was seen or heard from since. They include:-
• Abdalla Ibrahim Adra – former leadership member of 'Sagem' (ELF-Central Leadership) before Independence. Former administrator in Massawa. Former administrator of Tekreret sub-zone in Gash-Barka.
• Alamin Hamid Karrar – Employee of the Ministry of Agriculture. Rural extension and cooperatives expert.
• Ibrahim Mohammed Ibrahim – Judge in the regional court of Barka Province (now part of Gash-Barka Region). Former Judge at the High Court in Asmara.
• Idris Dinai – Administrator of Fanko sub-region in Gash-Barka.
• Ismail Idris Karkas – Veteran of Eritrea’s struggle for independence. Administrator of Gullouj district (sub-zone) in Gash-Barka.
• Mahmoud Dinai – chair of the Barka regional assembly, and one of the pioneers of the Independence struggle. Commander of the First Region of the ELF in the 1960s.
• Mahmoud Khalid – Agordat town administrator.
• Mohammed Kheir Musa – head of the provincial Labour Office in Keren.
• Mohammed Osman Dayer – Veteran of Eritrea’s struggle for Independence (with the ELF).
• Mohammed-Saleh Mahmoud – Judge in the regional court of Barka Province (now part of Gash-Barka Region). Former leadership member of the PLF-Revolutionary Committee.
• Saleh Arey – Administrator of Mansura district. Former administrator of Tekreret district, both in Barka.
• Saleh Mohammed Idris (Abu Ajaj) – a veteran of the Independence struggle since the early 1960s. Deputy Commander of the First Region of the ELF in the 1960s.
• Saleh Osman Ali (Rashid) – Instructor at the Eritrean Defense Force's training academies.
Other civilians were also arrested, including:-
• Afa Saleeb.
• Haj Ali Seidaai.
• Ibrahim Adem Agbalaay.
• Ibrahim Egamme – Shop owner.
• Ibrahim Saleh Hasan.
• Idris Shiya – Shop owner and farmer.
• Kheir Hamid Saeed.
• Maatoug Mohammed Ali Agordat.
• Mohammed Ali Ibrahim – Veteran of Eritrea’s struggle for independence.
• Mohammed Tahir Mreigaay.
• Qateen Humed Darie.
• Saleh Ali Eiman.
• Sheikh Mohammed Hamid Saeed.
• Suleiman Zakariya – Veteran of Eritrea’s struggle for independence.
